Almost black in color, about the size of a large ladybug, and seen in a parking lot median strip at night. There were actually several widely dispersed (3 or 4 noticed within about 100 yards of each other). They remind me of pharmacy beetles, but larger and darker.

i wonder what are the 'pharmacy beetles' you mention...
[the name doesn't ring a bell]

Moved from ID Request.

Well, I meant to say Drug Store Beetle...
....Stegobium paniceum

But after, what is a drug store, if not a pharmacy, right?

Thanks for the ID! I was going to upload another photo with a much better view of the very long antennae. It may not be necessary at this point.

thanx -- i see :]
the looks of the 'drugstore beetle' couldn't be more different from this one: cylindrical, smooth, short-legged, pale, tiny -- pls compare

The ones I saw were actually quite dark. The ones I posted, like:

were probably among the lighter colored ones, since they are easier to photograph for me.

At night I was using a flashlight held by the same hand I use to hold the camera body, the same technique I had to use on the drug store bugs, since there is just a single bulb near the door for lighting. When I take the photo, the flash drowns out the week flashlight, and I see much more detail when I see it on the monitor, later. That's what drives me to photograph them. I finally get to see what it was I could barely see when I took the photograph. But whatever feature that I could see through the viewfinder under the light of a single AAA powered mini maglite sticks in my mind as a prominent feature. I guess they are not all that similar, though to me in some ways they are. I could say that they remind me of the Fuller Rose Beetle, or some weevils that I have photographed, but you would probably only see the differences :)
