...it seems that at least a couple of us think this looks like an Ambush Bug in the genus Lophoscutus.

Hmm... don't really know...
Ambush Bugs are common enough where I live, but I've never seen Lophoscutus before. It might be that they are found only in the western half of the country.

Others may be able to tell you more.
