I wasn't sure what kind of beetle this was, but later found that it was a Darkling Beetle. I'd love to know what species exactly. As a kid, we used to call them "Stink Bugs", because of how they would stick their posteriors in the air when approached. I've also heard some people refer to them as dung beetles, but I'm not sure if that's accurate.
This one was found on the forest floor in an area of the park that is part riperian, and part chaparral. I've only seen them on the floor.
