Only one of the two North American species flies in the fall, and it has mostly dark sides.

I can't say for sure that's what you've got, but it's a possibility to consider while waiting for the experts.

 
You're probably right,
it's just that we don't normally get them except in the Spring and even then, it's kinda hit-or-miss.
