Butterfly - Vanessa cardui

Butterfly - Vanessa cardui
Artesia, Eddy County, New Mexico, USA
October 16, 2010
Size: 40mm

Moved
Amazingly few of these are posted for New Mexico here, especially considering how abundant they are here.

Moved from ID Request.

They are very fast and cannot
They are very fast and cannot be approached with a close up lens. I used a 55-300mm and had to sway back and forth to get the shot. When bees landed in or near them they fluttered their wings and off went the bee.

A couple different posted together,
so I've unlinked the different species. This one is a Painted Lady - Vanessa cardui.
