stinkbug nymphs - Brochymena

stinkbug nymphs - Brochymena
Oak Ridge, Guilford County, North Carolina, USA
June 20, 2010
Size: ~1/8 inch
I found the bunch of light green eggs on a dead spirea twig next to my house (June 4). They hatched on June 20, and I had about 5 days of pleasure photographing the tiny nymphs until an even tinier evil house spider killed them off! I have tried to match the coloration of the first and second instars on Bug Guide without success. Is it even possible to identify these bugs at this stage of growth? (See other pictures linked to this.)

in most cases, pentatomid experts refuse to identify nymphs
the onle reliable way to find out is to rear them or otherwise establish a conclusive association with adults
