Cerambycinae--Methiini? - Methia brevis

Cerambycinae--Methiini? - Methia brevis
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, San Diego County, California, USA
October 10, 2010
Size: 6.5-7.5 to wing tip
This cerambycid came to lights around the Borrego Palm Canyon Campground bathrooms at about 700-800' elevation. It is very black, and this image was lightened to show details. I went through the key to Cerambycinae tribes for those that mentioned abbreviated elytra. Methiini was the first of four tribes. I searched in BugGuide--and voila!, there was Robyn's #369714, also from San Diego County, though at much higher elevation. This beetle may be a different genus and species, but it has to be in this tribe! Any help is much appreciated.

Methia brevis
Methia brevis Fall, 1929. The black coloration without elytra vitae, the pronotum as long as wide, and appressed pubescence all point to this species. The type locality is listed as San Diego County.

Methia brevis
How wonderful to get this unusual Cerambicid identified to species! Thank you so much, Dennis Haines.
