Is this a harvester cat?

Is this a harvester cat?
Bernardsville County, New Jersey, USA
June 30, 2010
There where a few of them on a leaf full of wolly aphids, and these guys are known to be found on the sactuary, so is it one?

* This is a different larva, but I don't know how to do the "found near (picture)"...

These look like Syrphidae eggs.... or some other Diptera.... difficult to tell, but I would put my money on Syrphidae...

Darn
I had my heart set on it them being caterpillars! But thanks for an ID!

It is difficult to say, but L
It is difficult to say, but Lep eggs are more dome shaped with the micropyle on top, while flies have often the elongate eggs with the strange surface structure.. So can not give a 100% correct ID but Dip is the most likely and Syrphidae is a good candidate...

Having spent a lot of time researching insect eggs...
I would call this one Syrphidae with 100% certainty. It appears identical to the egg of Syrphus rectus, as illustrated in Short and Bergh (2005) "Separation of three common hover fly predators of woolly apple aphid based on the exochorionic sculpturing of eggs." Can Ent 137:67-70. ... Which is not to say it is that species, but something close to that perhaps. The first image is not as clear, but based on appearance and context I'd say Syrphidae is a safe bet for that one as well.

to do a thumbnail...
all you have to do is write [thumb:xxxxx]. "xxxxx" being the number of the photo, in your case it would be 468782.
once you do this you can unattach the two photos.
