big ants, little aphids - Formica subsericea - Female
Oak Ridge, Guilford County, North Carolina, USA
June 5, 2010
Size: ant ~1 cm.
I was surprised that ants this size would tend the tiny yellow-green aphids.
I found these on a spirea bush.
