Eristalis dimidiata - female

Eristalis dimidiata - Female
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
October 31, 2010
Size: 13 mm
Detail shows the dark cheeks characteristic of this species (Syrphidae of Oklahoma). Note, also, the short, thick pile on the thorax and that the basal halves of the tibiae are whitish, fairly sharply demarcated. I believe one can just make out (<) the "1-6 short hairs on dorsum of arista" (Syrphidae of Ontario) on the left antenna (lower right in image).
