Old, dark, shelf fungus beetle - Dorcatoma pallicornis

Old, dark, shelf fungus beetle - Dorcatoma pallicornis
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
March 18, 2006
Size: about 3 mm
Photographed April 4, 2006, I discovered this apparent anobiid in a container of old, dark shelf fungus pieces I had previously broken open looking for larvae. I obviously missed one!

The elaborate antennae remind me of a puff*ball beetle. I'm interested in seeing if the elytra remain different colors or if the lighter one darkens in time.

Dorcatoma sp.
The strongly projecting antennomeres 9-10 indicate that this is a Dorcotoma (not so projecting in Byrrhodes and Caenocara). Either D. pallicornis or falli. A good ventral photo of the metasternum may allow species placement.

Thank you, Don.
I took lots of images of this very dirty beetle, which I had to spend time cleaning in PhotoShop. I'll post other views, including a ventral one, as I get them cleaned.
