Cute Glob - Sminthurinus quadrimaculatus

Cute Glob - Sminthurinus quadrimaculatus
Near Ruraldale, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
April 6, 2006
Size: 0.7 mm
I was photographing a tiny beetle, and didn't even notice this guy until I was downloading the pics to my computer. At a smaller magnification, I thought perhaps it was a teeny tiny beetle. At full magnification, it reminded me of globular springtail photos I have seen. I don't remember ever photographing a glob before.

Jim photographed one that looks awfully similar:

Definitly Sminthurinus quadrimaculatus
Hi Stephen. You can move it at its proper place in the family Katiannidae. There are other images provided to compare with.

Possibly Sminthurinus quadrimaculatus
Hi Stephen. A member of the family Katiannidae. Note there is also a form of quadrimaculatus with only 2 white spots...

Frans, Thanks very much for taking the time to ID this!
