Lepturinae? - Trypherus latipennis

Size: 6.0 mm

I'm pretty sure this is a Cerambicid - Lepturinae. It looks very similar to my friend Gary Griswold's posted Ulochaetes from the state of Washington. I overlooked this specimen in my "unidentified" drawer, but when I photographed it, the truncated elytra were evident. I think this species is much smaller than Gary's Ulochaetes.

Cantharidae

I didn't know any Cantharids had truncated elytra - thanks! I'll be looking for more of these next summer - this was the only one I've gotten since I moved to Missouri.

great many cantharids in a number of genera have short elytra

up to 150 spp. in our area alone -- mostly in the Malthininae, but in other subfams as well
