Size: 10 -12mm
Nectaring(?) on a Mexican Sunflower (Tithonia). It took 10 minutes of following this guy/gal around with the camera just to get this one image.

Looks much like this Ocyptamus costatus image here, but this would be far outside the range given for this species on the BG info page.

It's a she. And I think your ID is good.
I couldn't find definitive range info on this one, but that's not really a skill of mine. Further, a renowned editor here, commenting on range info, once said "If it flies, all bets are off."

I did find this, which seems to indicate that NCSU has at least one O. costatus specimen from NC.
