Lil Crayfish - Procambarus alleni

Lil Crayfish - Procambarus alleni
Sarasota, Florida, USA
November 7, 2010
Size: 1.5 in.
Found dead at the edge of my pond. Feedback on ID appreciated. Wouldn't normally post something of this nature, but after following a link to another member's images I found a section on these. Thanks Sean!

surprised
Thank you for giving attention to this and the move. I'm always surprised when I get info from an image submitted over a year ago.

Procambarus
According to The Crayfishes of Florida (Hobbs Jr., 1942), Procambarus alleni is the only crayfish species listed for Sarasota County. Granted it's an older publication, but from the general appearance of your specimen and where it was found (pond habitat), there's a good chance that's what it is - a juvenile P. alleni.

What's your confidence level?
Do we make a new species page?

Good
I've done some quick digging to be sure and everything I've come across agrees with Hobbs' assessment. Sarasota County is home to only one species of crayfish - P. alleni.

Based on the info available, I feel comfortable moving it to species page, so I'll create a page for it.
