I was surprised that there was so much in this city duck pond, including these blue-legged water mites. Note the notch in the rear legs.

Dr Proctor: "excellent photos of a male Piona.
"The notch in the fourth legs is for holding on to the legs of the female during sperm transfer, which the male does by inserting a cluster of spermatophores (held by modified third-leg tarsi) into the genital opening of the female."
