Underside of elytra - Oiceoptoma inaequale

Underside of elytra - Oiceoptoma inaequale
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
June 5, 2005
I found these wingcovers at a carrion site. Something had evidently eaten the rest of the carrion beetle and left these elytra, which nicely show the pearlescent/metallic blue surfaces that possibly serve as bright distraction when flying, but disappear when the beetle lands, helping it evade predators.

Since the color and sheen approximate that of the neotropical Blue Mor*pho butterfly, which is said to be especially reflective of ultraviolet, I wonder if these elytra undersides are high UV reflectors.
