wow, much darker than NC dancers
Neat, look at the different photos. In North Carolina, we get the lighter ones, and then the dark ones with purple abdomens, but yours is even darker, almost black. Looks like a "cline" of coloration with latitude, perhaps?

Variations of the Variable...
You are right Patrick. "Stokes Beginners Guide to Dragonflies" (1) says:

"...Appearance quite variable geographically. Southeastern race has black wings and abdomen mostly black with blue tip."
