Geometrine moth
Hi Kay - I've shot moths through the window like this too... Hard not to get to see the dorsal wing surfaces! Do you see that dark red speckling along the costal margin on the front edge of the forewings? That gives me a pretty strong sense that this is in fact the ventral view of either Dichorda or Dichordophora rather than the Nemoria leptalea. Hard to tell which one but I would lean a bit to Dichorda. You can see those species on our Geometrine moth website here:

Hi John - I was hoping you'd look at the picture and respond! I do see the dark red speckling you describe. I checked the Essig Museum database (my most local entomology collection), and found that they've cataloged no Dichordophora species, and only one Dichorda species: illustraria. They show 16 specimens, the closest coming from about 50 miles distant. So I think there's some likelihood of the moth being D. illustraria. But of course I'll leave the identification as Dichorda sp.
