black head and thorax, red abdomen, yellow antenna - Arilus cristatus

black head and thorax, red abdomen, yellow antenna - Arilus cristatus
Montgomery County, Tennessee, USA
April 9, 2006
Size: about 1/4 inch
I found these on the outside brick wall of my house, on the shaded side. They are pretty small, maybe 1/4". I don't know how long they'd been there, noticed them just today. They were all grouped around a nest? Looks kinda like a very small honeycomb, black with white around the top edge of each chamber. I'll include a picture of the whole group.
