Dynastes tityus larva? - Osmoderma Walpole, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, USA November 20, 2010 Size: 1.5"
A neighbor just cut down a very large, old (damaged) Black Locust tree and in the lower half of the trunk found many of these large larvae. Lots of frass and rich "compost." I have read that locust is a favored tree of this species, but was not sure if they are currently found in Southwestern NH.
