Gosh, what was I thinking when I moved this to
Myrmica
?! Note elongate peduncle (stalk) of the petiole and very short antennal scapes, quite different from that genus.

Males of most other species of Wisconsin
Aphaenogaster
lack this combination of slenderness and all-black coloring..
