Size: ~ 8 mm?
Under bark of a white pine log. ID help appreciated.

Yes this is clearly a Syrphid
Yes this is clearly a Syrphid. Maybe something like Brachyopa or Xylota... not sure what it is... just keep them in a moist container and rear them to adults...
