Luminescent/iridescent small spider. - Leucauge venusta - female

Luminescent/iridescent small spider. - Leucauge venusta - Female
Chamblee, DeKalb County, Georgia, USA
November 23, 2010
Size: 2mm +
These animals have been around the red-berry holly for about a month. They invariably present on the other side of the web, venter facing outward. I noticed a bright, almost metallic glow, the quality of which I've yet to capture with my camera, Nikon D90; lenses, AF-S Micro NIKKOR 85mm and AF MICO NIKKOR 60mm. No flash used for this image. Just observed one in the rain, it was not glowing.

We would suggest spiderling of
Leucauge venusta. Nice find!

No doubt in my biological mind!
I betcha I have images of mom and dad somewhere in my 'puter! And there is also no doubt as to it's being a spiderling.

Thank you very much!
