Obscure Sphinx - Erinnyis obscura - male

Obscure Sphinx - Erinnyis obscura - Male
Kendal Lakes, Miami-Dade County, Florida, USA
August 18, 2010
Size: about 1.5 in.
Not sure what this moth is. In shape and posture it looks to me most like one of the hooded owlets but I can't find one with matching pattern. The scalloped edge of the wings is also giving me pause, but maybe that's due to wear. Anyone knows what this one is?

One of the smaller sphinx moths. Hope you saw the nice orange hindwing!

Thank you
Aha! no wonder I couldn't find it. Alas, no; since I took the picture without disturbing it, I didn't see the hindwings :(
