Found several under a log.
Not great image, but first termite image from New Jersey.

Soldier
Identification of this species is correct based on geographic distribution. Morphologically it is difficult to separate out members of this genus. This particular individual is a soldier standing guard while the workers escape into their tunnels in the soil.
As it may be of interest to you, some of the best termite researchers in the world are in Japan, discovering fascinating aspects of their unusual biology on a regular basis.

Thank you for your comment, John! Yes, we have a lot of old wooden buildings in Japan and termites are very familiar and need to reserch to control them so... (I haven't seen them in person in Japan though...)
