Meloe campanicollis - Male
Camp Creek Run, Marlton, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA
December 1, 2010
Size: Maybe around 29 mm?
I assume this is the male of Meloe campanicollis but wanted to check. I have a hard time telling them apart. More images and the beetle available if I need to shoot something else.

ID confiremd by J.D. Pinto: M. campanicollis
his comment: "I wonder if this was simply a 'good year' for campanicollis. I never considered it a very common species, certainly not compared to impressus, another fall species. Last year, and before, if I remember correctly, you sent me primarily impressus."

Good year for...
It must be. I have 3 M. campanicollis (based on previous ID) keep seeing in my yard from October (and today too). And this is my first oil beetle in my yard.

Thanks!
I guess next year I'll be searching for the other! If you want any of the images in frass let me know
