Cymindis complanata
based on my microscopic examination of this specimen which is now a photo-voucher in the P.W.Messer collection. Thanks John.
C. complanata
is distinguished in the literature from similar
C. platicollis
by the forebody colored reddish which contrasts with darker elytra. In this specimen I was not convinced by previous reports of antennae longer, more slender. However, this single specimen did suggest (unpublished) clues for species separation. Long apparent body length (11.8 mm) is greater than my several reference specimens of
C. platicollis
which are all < 10 mm, including one specimen from MS. Not observed in any
C. platicollis
, is a distinct patch of coarse setigerous punctures located posteriomedially to each posterior supraorbital puncture. Fellow BugGuiders are encouraged to refute or corroborate these morphologic separators.
