Apidae--Centris? - Centris rhodopus

Apidae--Centris? - Centris rhodopus
Mojave National Preserve, San Bernardino County, California, USA
October 9, 2010
This bee was photographed in a huge Rabbitbush wash along Cedar Canyon Road. It may or may not be the same individual as in the next image. This may be the same species I just posted.
This striking bee has somewhat unusual venation. It does not match Anthophora or Habropoda. The middle submarginal cell seems more elongate than a Centris. I'll appreciated any help with its identification.
