Ground Beetle - Agonum

Ground Beetle - Agonum
Edmundston, Madawaska County, New Brunswick, Canada
August 14, 2010
Size: 8mm
Which species is it?

Agonum "melanarius group"
This is certainly in Lindroth's "melanarius group" of Agonum. There's not really enough detail here to be able to resolve which one. It could readily be A. fidele Casey, A. melanarium Dejean, A. tenue (LeConte), A. mutatum, (Gemminger & Harold), or A. propinquum (Gemminger & Harold). One would need to see greater detail to be able to resolve which.

species
the vast majority of Agonum species can't be IDed from photos, or would require series of high-res images showing various parts in great detail; the right way to proceed is to have voucher specimens examined by an expert; pls consider contacting Peter Messer for an arrangement

Thank for your information, s
Thank for your information, should I keep the photos in "id request" section or move it to Agonum page?

Agonum is fine
in general, there's no point in leaving ANY pictures in ID Request for over a few days; in most cases, it's better to post your stuff directly in the guide to the levels you feel confident about: this way you'll get names for your bugs faster. Please refer to this forum thread for more recommendations

Thank a lot, I will read this
Thank a lot, I will read this very carrefully. I am a bit new here, but I have a lot of material which could be beneficial. Until January or Feb. I will continue working on 2010 bug photos. After that, I will have time to include bugs photos... my photos at Pbase

no need to read the entire discussion
[too much rant -- don't waste time]
just peruse Chuck's 'guidelines' to get the idea, that's all you need.
i'm looking forward to seeing more of your photos on BG, Richard.
