Unidentified Wasp - Sphecidae? -
Chalybion californicum
Maricopa, Pinal County, Arizona, USA
December 5, 2010
Size: around 1,5 to 2 inches
Was aggressively feeding on tiny beetle-like insects as seen in the photos.

Two possibilities on the wasp:
Chlorion aerarium

It might be eating aphids, or eating the "honeydew" they excrete.
