Longhorned Beetle - Sybra alternans

Longhorned Beetle - Sybra alternans
Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, USA
July 7, 2004
This photo was taken at the Frenchman's Forest Natural Area. This was a very small longhorn beetle, (no bigger than 10-12mm) and was seen on a dead bush chewing holes in the twigs (perhaps a twig-borer?). There were quite a few other longhorns congregated on this dead bush as well. All were about the same size, but marked different like this fella:

Update
Dr. M.C. Thomas at the Florida Dept. of Agriculture also identified this individual as S. alternans.

It is probably an older specimen, and the markings (which are actually fine hairs) have most likely worn away with age.

Thanks Mike!
