Dot-winged Baskettail, lateral view - Epitheca petechialis - male

Dot-winged Baskettail, lateral view - Epitheca petechialis - Male
Williamson County, Texas, USA
April 5, 2006
Size: ~1.6 inches long
In this lateral view, the yellow face is visible, as are the male secondary genitalia. In flight and from a distance, this dragonfly looked almost black.

I sent both views to Dr. Abbott, along with a close-up of the dotted wing pattern that I'm not posting here (using a larger image here, so the dots are easily visible on the dorsal view.

Nice addition
As I'm logged-in, will make a page. I note that Dunkle considers this as a form of Striped-winged Baskettail and Abbott's book also throws some doubt as to whether it is a 'true' species. Anyway, I have made a separate species page for it.

Thanks...
for making a page for it. I'm certainly not expert enough to know if it really is a separate species or not, but it sure *looks* different.

Then again, dragonflies love to surprise...
