Turpilia rostrata - female

Turpilia rostrata - Female
Long Key Nature Center, Davie, Broward County, Florida, USA
July 29, 2008
A photo from my Unidentified Insect Photos file. The Nature Center is always crawling with katydids in the summer. This one was hanging out on the sidewalk under the lights. I'm living on the edge today and taking a stab at i.d. I'm thinking M. rhombifolium female.

It is a related species - Turpilia rostrata.
Microcentrum rhombifolium has a slightly speckled look (pale markings), the yellow stripes are often not so well developed (but it varies), and the top edge of the hind femur is not striped yellow. The head is also broader. They are very similar looking though. The dark eyes on this one are because this photo was taken at night. In daytime the eyes become light-colored.

Moved from Greater Angle-wing Katydid.

Thanks!
Struck out on both katydid i.d.'s Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained! Thank you, not only for correcting my erroneous i.d. but for describing the differences. That's the best way to learn.
