Adult Male and Female - Drassodes neglectus - male - female

Adult Male and Female - Drassodes neglectus - Male Female
Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada
December 10, 2010
I found them in this position a few hours after the previous pictures were taken. They are in an opposite, webless corner of the container this time. The male is lying on his back, cradling the female on his "stomach" with his legs around her, and reaching around to insert his right palp into her right side.

What I found interesting is that they didn't mate in the retreat the female constructed. I thought they might, partly because she started making it within minutes of coming into contact with the male, and she made it in only a short time.

Also, I didn't witness all that went on with the spiders before they arrived at this position. I wonder if they might have fallen from the side or roof of the container to be upside down like this?
