Diachelia - Diacheila arctica - female

Diachelia - Diacheila arctica - Female
~95 km NW of Peace River Alberta, Alberta, Canada
June 7, 2008
Size: 8.9 mm
A rare one that was confirmed by Dr. Ball and Danny Shepley.
I collected it from a flight intercept trap in an aspen forest surrounding a large marsh. Stéphane Bourassa took the reigns on determining the specimen and drove our excitement over it!

(Note: I photoshopped the pin head out of it- mind the right elytron)

nicest find...
i've never collected those myself but my more frost-hardy buddies who explored n. Siberia kindly supplied 2 spp. (those with Holarctic ranges) for my collection; D. polita is locally not uncommon

lucky!
That must be some collection!
This last find has me dreaming of an early spring collecting trip! It's pretty far south for the species, and late in the season (End of May-Early June)- we wonder what the true distribution of this species might be in Canada, given heavier sampling in our north... Love to come across a polita also!
