Wavy-lined Emerald reared from Coreopsis - Synchlora aerata Highland Park, Middlesex County, New Jersey, USA June 30, 2008 Size: ~11 mm
Shows what they look like when eating a yellow flower. The Coreopsis lanceolata was definitely their preferred host in my little wildflower meadow patch, but I also saw some on Rudbeckia.
Here it is when first discovered. The 2nd caterpillar shot is from a week later. After the later caterpillar shot, I cut the flower stem and placed the flower in a cup of water in a rearing container. When the caterpillar had eaten the flower down to a nub, it pupated. Seven days after that, the adult eclosed.
