Mantidfly - Zeugomantispa minuta

Mantidfly - Zeugomantispa minuta
Hwy 55 and Sedwick, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
July 9, 2004
Size: 16 mm
This was the smaller of two (a male?) I found at a light. I was only able to capture one. Posed. Body length was measured by photographing adjacent to a scale: 16 mm(head to tip of abdomen), 22 mm (head to tip of folded wings).

Like a mini Praying Mantis!
You guys in the east get all the good bugs!

West too
See the Wasp Mantidfly here.

cool
Patrick,

Way cool, next time you find one of these give me a call. Never seen anything like this before.

Finding these
I've found a few at lights here in Durham (mid-summer), and one clambering about on goldenrod at dusk. Perhaps not terribly rare, just rather nocturnal.

Nice shot!
So jealous! Great shot! It's like a lacewing with vice grips:)

I agree...
cool bug and great shot.
