Datana ministra? - Datana perspicua

Datana ministra? - Datana perspicua
Niobrara County, Wyoming, USA
September 6, 2008
On Rhus trilobata. They resemble D. integerrima but there is no walnut, hickory or pecan anywhere in area. I believe them to be 3rd or 4th instar D. ministra, can anyone confirm or correct?

I don't know Datana species well,
there are several and the larvae tend to look similar, so this is more of an educated guess than an actual ID. Datana perspicua is very common on Rhus trilobata / aromatica, and occasionally other species of Rhus in the west. And, yours looks more like that species to me.

Thanks!
Excellent observation, Mr. Ferguson. I agree D. perspicua is a much better match, and one I had not noted. Many thanks!
