And how lucky you were! I tried to find this sp. last year, but could only find emergence holes. Perhaps I'll have more luck this year, though I'm not as local as you are.
If you're interested, I can e-mail you the Cartwright paper (1966) on this species.

I helped make collections of these beetles a few years ago, before I had a good camera, and I'd been meaning to go back and track one down for photos. I got lucky finding this individual out crawling around, I think he was likely flooded out by the rain as the area I've found burrows in was pretty much a marsh.
