Casemaking clothes moth - Tinea pellionella

Casemaking clothes moth - Tinea pellionella
Carpinteria, Santa Barbara County, California, USA
December 28, 2010
Size: 9 mm
This little fellow was crawling along the wall above my bed. I had fun using the portable "microscope" (Celestron 44306) that my wife gave me for Christmas, along with my pocket digicam, to take these images. The photo and text on p. 251 of Tracks & Signs of Insects and Other Invertebrates was very helpful in making the ID. Thanks, Charley!

Update: I uploaded some video of the caterpillar to YouTube. I like how the video shows the caterpillar poking its head out of first one end of its case, then the other.
