caterpillar - Sept. 7 - Leuconycta diphteroides

caterpillar - Sept. 7 - Leuconycta diphteroides
Cross Plains, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
September 7, 2010
This caterpillar completed a cocoon by Sept. 19 and is now overwintering. As it was forming the pupa the caterpillar first covered itself with debris from the leaves and sort of sealed itself under the debris to the side of the container. Could be either Leuconycta diphteroides judging by photo in (1) or Leuconycta lepidula.
