How about...
Oxydia vesulia?

According to the Guide, the "large black spot near leading edge of hindwing is distinctive (in North America)."

probably
But I just wanted to point out that Oxydia cubana has also been recorded from Florida, and has a similar phenotype (which does include the so-called-distinctive black hindwing spot; this spot may be distinctive to genus level but I dont know about species). Additionally, there 3 other members of the genus recorded from Florida but I don't know what they look like.

Sorry for making things more complicated!

No apology needed :)
I've come to expect something of this sort whenever I throw out a potential ID for a lep. (It won't keep me from trying, mind you; I learn a lot when I'm corrected.)

If I stumbled on the right genus, I'm thrilled. :)

Thank you both for taking the time to help narrow this guy down. What a wonderful resource you all are. Thank you again.
