Shiny green - Poecilus diplophryus

Shiny green - Poecilus diplophryus
Picture Rocks, NW of Tucson, Pima County, Arizona, USA
August 1, 2010
Size: 13mm

Moved tentatively
Moved from Poecilus.

Poecilus diplophryus Chaudoir
is a good fit for this image. Large size (> 11.5 mm) and three punctures visible atop elytron (vs two) separates it from otherwise similar P. scitulus in AZ.

Thanks, Peter!
also many thanks for giving my bug safari connection to a Belgium carabid enthusiast. I am going to meet him and his family next week for black lighting!

a fancy Poecilus??
can't wait to learn what it is

Poecilus diplophryus
was my first impression, based on overall appearance and collection information. I've collected it in the mid-lower elevations several times in AZ.

There are some that look like this one
in the UAIC but they are only ided as Pecilus sp. )-:
I had one like this a couple of years ago, same location (my backyard black light)

Poecilus
UAIC might be using the name P. subcordatus, which is now a synonym of P. diplophryus (assuming it is that species--would wait for a specialist's confirmation either way).
