Elater 3 - Gambrinus stigma - male

Elater 3 - Gambrinus stigma - Male
TSU NRC, McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee, USA
March 31, 2003
Size: 7mm

Moved
Moved from Limonius meridianus.

While working on Limonius this weekend, I realized I never corrected this! Sorry for the delay. This is L. stigma. Similar to L. meridianus dorsally but easily separated by non-grooved (stigma) vs grooved (meridianus) pronotosternal sutures.

Moved Tentatively
Moved from Limonius.

Based on Dhafer's 2009 revision, this is the only eastern species with elytral coloring like this. Dhafer indicated it has been recorded from PA, OH and NC, so it's presence in TN should not be surprising.

It could just be an L. auripilis with a greater extant of orange on the elytral humeri, but I do not think so.

ID is tentative, pending examination of specimen by myself or an elaterid specialist.
