Bruce Spanworm - Operophtera bruceata

Bruce Spanworm - Operophtera bruceata
Lacey (near Olympia), Thurston County, Washington, USA
January 6, 2011
These guys seem to have a lot of variation. I'm pretty sure this one is a Bruce Spanworm. Looks very similar to one the Avises posted (they live just a hop, skip, and a jump north of me).

We get a lot of these guys
and there does seem to be a lot of variation, but I can't readily tell the duller coloured ones from O. brumata which is an introduced species.
