Mallophora orcina? - Mallophora orcina

Mallophora orcina? - Mallophora orcina
Archbold Biological Station - Lake Placid, Highlands County, Florida, USA
July 17, 2010
Size: 25mm roughly
This specimen was pretty cooperative and posed for quite a while. I was catching great pollinator activity on these tall (about 3') plants with wooly flowers on top and the robber fly would hide about half way down the plant on the stalk and make occasional runs at unwary bees. Unfortunately, he did not make a capture before growing bored with being a photographic subject and leaving.
