Flies Pollinating Gray Goldenrod - Senotainia

Flies Pollinating Gray Goldenrod - Senotainia
Preston, Caroline County, Maryland, USA
September 22, 2009
Size: smaller than a house fly
The proboscis appears to be extended into the corolla tube. There were a few dozen of these flies pollinating the goldenrods in a mesic, sunny field. Based on other photos in bugguide, the three dark stripes on the thorax, the stripes on the abdomen, abdomen a bit conical, I'm placing a guess for Sarcophaginae.

This digger wasp was in the same patch of flowers.

Not the same individual as , so posted separately.

Fly with red eyes, black and white stripes.

Tachinids?
This and your other image are probably tachinids, but hard to be certain. Sarcophagidae is also possible. At any rate, they are definitely something here.
