Return to Pavilion Key... - Dorymyrmex bureni
Pavilion Key, Ten Thousand Islands, Everglades National Park, Everglades City, Collier County, Florida, USA
January 20, 2011
Size: 8 cm dia mound
Cratered mound on sandy beach of Pavilion Key, an island at edge of Gulf of Mexico. I took a similar photo in 2006 but without any photos of the ants themselves:

This time the ants were out and about, actively carrying sand grains out of their mound entrance; see next photo. I am tentatively placing this on the Dorymyrmex bureni page based on previous identification of the mound only, but am asking for confirmation now that I have an accompanying photo of the ant.
