This species has a peculiar range. It is primarily found in the Upper Midwest (MN, WI, MI, ONT) but is also known from Florida. (1)

Male M. grata are similar to dark morph male Maevia inclemens but lack the tufts of setae on the carapace. Additionally, M. grata is also found in grassy habitats whereas M. inclemens is found in forested habitats and forest edges.
